Let’s face it, everyone playing this is controlling the game with their left hand while the right one is… busy
This is fine in the game because WASD is all that’s needed during gameplay and those keys are all on the left side, accessible by one hand, but the menu, at least on the default mapping, needs both of your hands on the keyboard. This could break the flow for one, but it makes it hard to enjoy non-gameplay fun like the gallery or the theatre.
This issue extends to Controller play, where the left stick that controls the menu is on the left so you can move around, but all the buttons are on the right, the unusable side, and are still needed for the menus, yet it’s worse because those are the gameplay buttons.
I propose the default layout becomes:
  • In menus: For the keyboard, WASD lets you move around the menu, Q is Back/Cancel and E is confirm, the controller layout can stay the same but adding alternate keybinds to allow the user to confirm with LT and Back/Cancel with LB
  • In gameplay: The layout doesn’t change and WASD are still the buttons used in time with the beat, this is also the case for controller input but alternate key binds would be added for the DPad, where Up would also act as Y, Left would act as X, Down would act as A and right would act as B
